Wireless HDMI transmission for on-set client monitoring used to be genuinely unreliable, dropouts, lag, interference from other devices on a busy set. I avoided it for years in favor of a cable and a monitor tethered right next to my position. Current wireless systems have closed that gap enough that I've actually switched over for most jobs now, and it's worth being specific about what changed.
Latency is now low enough that it doesn't undermine live feedback
The old complaint, a visible lag between actual camera movement and what a client sees on their monitor, made real-time directing feedback genuinely awkward. Current transmission latency is low enough on a clean signal that a client calling out framing adjustments in real time actually works now, without the slightly delayed, talking-over-each-other feeling older systems produced.
Range and interference resistance in genuinely crowded environments
Event spaces with dozens of other wireless devices, other production crews' equipment, venue wifi, used to be where wireless transmission fell apart most reliably. Current systems handle that interference meaningfully better, and I've run a client monitor wirelessly at genuinely crowded brand activations without the dropouts that would have made this unusable a few years back.

Where I still reach for a cable
For a single, absolutely critical hero shot where any risk of dropout is unacceptable, a tethered cable still goes on the camera specifically for that setup, even though the rest of the day runs wireless. It's a small hedge against a low-probability failure on the one shot where failure would actually matter, and I think that kind of selective redundancy is a more honest approach than either fully trusting or fully avoiding a genuinely improved but not flawless technology.
