I picked up a second pair of binoculars this year specifically for night work, something with a larger objective lens than my daytime compact pair, and it's changed how I scout astrophotography and evening event locations more than I expected a piece of optical gear to.
Why daytime binoculars fail you at night
The compact 32mm pair I use for daytime scouting genuinely struggles once light drops, the small objective lens just can't gather enough light for the exit pupil to matter at dusk and beyond. A larger 42mm or 50mm pair with a wider exit pupil makes an obvious difference for evaluating a location right at the edge of usable light, exactly the window where a lot of my most interesting event and brand work actually happens.
Scouting light pollution before committing a shot
For anything involving stars or a genuinely dark sky, I now glass a potential location before I ever set up a camera, checking how much ambient light pollution bleeds in from a nearby town or a parking lot's security lighting. A camera sensor at high ISO will show you problems your naked eye missed, but by then you've already set up, focused, and possibly missed a better window. A five-minute scout with the right binoculars catches most of that ahead of time.

The app doesn't replace the eyes
I use planning apps for moon phase and Milky Way positioning like everyone else, but apps don't account for a streetlight that just got installed or a construction floodlight that wasn't there last time you scouted. Binoculars are still the fastest way to verify what an app predicted against what's actually there right now, and that gap between prediction and reality has ruined more than one planned shoot for people who trusted the app completely.
